Menstrual hygiene is a subject which is as old as humanity but has gained recent importance due to the readiness of the society to accept its challenges.

Young girls of some communities across various cultures, consider menstruation as a taboo. They feel that menstruation is a curse or burden. People considered women as filthy & impure in their menstrual period.

Many communities restrict menstruating women from activities such as cooking, touching food, being with family members, attending religious ceremonies, and bathing.

Taboos and myths should be allayed about menstruation as it is a physiological process. Over 70% of women in India do not use sanitary napkins. Sanitary napkins are generally too expensive for these women to afford.

You Are Not Impure

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Mission

Due to lack of awareness & affordability, women resort to alternatives like cloth, ashes etc. A 2016 landscape analysis titled Menstrual Health in India also observed that of nearly 355 million girls in India who were of age, 71% had no idea about menstruation before their first period. Poor menstrual health management leads to numerous health problems related to fertility, physical & mental health.

The urgent question, however, is: Why is menstrual hygiene not given enough importance?

The problem focuses on three aspects:

  • Lack of awareness, access to knowledge
  • Acceptance by the society.
  • Do not understand what menstruation is.

The result is devastating, women fail to understand that their periods are at regular biological function.

We Are A Team

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Mission

Lack of access to pharmacies & menstrual. products also push them to resort to unhygienic alternatives. The high cost of sanitary products. The lack of proximity to pharmacies & ill-equipped health clinics contribute to making menstrual hygiene inaccessible in several parts of the country. Our NGO is running Campaigns to create awareness among adolescent girls & women to make them use sanitary pads for better menstrual hygiene.

We are Educating students, parents, women and their husbands that providing them with the right hygiene facilities will help give women and girls. The Menstruations should not hinders the confidence of girls. These steps will go a long way in protecting women & girls from developing menstrual hygiene-related diseases. Such as fungal, urinary tract infection and reproductive tract infections etc.

All of this contributes to our goal i.e. to build a world where no one is held back because they menstruate by 2030.
